United
Players Travel To Cambodia This Summer
10 girls from our
United family have been blessed with the amazing opportunity
to travel all the way across the world to Battambang,
Cambodia for two weeks this July to share their passion of
soccer with underprivileged girls. Our team consists of 10
United players and 2 coaches along with youth leaders from
Mill Creek Foursquare Church. We will be working alongside
the SALT Academy (A program that trains Cambodia Youth about
life skills through soccer) to train and equip girls soccer
teams in Cambodia. The girls we will be working with are
from orphanages and many have been rescued out of human
trafficking.
Girl’s soccer was formally organized in
Cambodia about 2 years ago through the SALT Academy. Because the sport
is still in its infant stage, we will have the opportunity to share and
demonstrate our coaching curriculum and experiences with their coaches
and players to further develop the sport for girls. Recently, the FIFA
Organization has approached the SALT Academy and has asked them to
develop a girl’s National Team. We are so excited to be apart of making
this a reality for the girl’s in Cambodia.
Although much of this trip will be
soccer related, I know that the experience will be life-changing for all
involved. Our hope is that this experience will touch the lives of our
young team members in that they learn compassion and empathy for the
underprivileged and exploited. Soccer is the world’s game but it’s also
a path for making a difference in the world! WE ARE UNITED!
